Full-Depth Reclamation

Cutting Edge Reclamation, LLC provides state-of-the-art technology through a process (Full-Depth Reclamation or FDR) in which the full flexible pavement section and a predetermined portion of the underlying materials are uniformly crushed, pulverized, and/or blended. The old pavement and base materials, once pulverized and blended with an appropriate stabilization additive, are re-shaped and re-compacted to produce a strong, durable base suitable for subsequent overlay. The reclaimed base will be stronger, more uniform, and more moisture-resistant than the original base, resulting in a long low-maintenance life. FDR offers many economic advantages and design alternatives to pavement restoration. In many cases, FDR will prove to be the most economical solution for providing/restoring load bearing capacity.

Asphalt pavements typically fail in several ways. The most common include:

Fatigue Cracking

Traffic causes repeated strain in the surface, resulting in asphalt cracks.

Rutting

Channelized traffic loads shift the materials in the surface, base, and subgrade, leaving depressions or ruts in the pavements.

Shoving

Vehicle braking and stopping separate the surface material from the underlying base.

Deterioration of Foundation Support

Moisture degradation, traffic overloads or subgrade failure can cause the base to fail.

In most cases where the existing pulverized material does not meet the aggregate requirements for a sound stabilized base, additional virgin aggregates or Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement ("RAP") can be readily incorporated prior to the reclamation process. By taking advantage of the capabilities of a wide variety of additives, additional structural value and cost savings may be realized. Because reclamation allows the designer to build a new structure from the bottom up, the process can yield almost any desired outcome.
